 Among the highlights were:
* Offering of  a $500 reward for information into car thefts and break ins that have recently taken place in  surrounding communities since the close of school.
* Movies in May had to be held inside due to weather. Because of this money was lost on rental of movie projection equipment. Council is researching purchasing its own movie projection equipment for the City of Pinson.
* The cedar tree in Triangle Park will be decorated for the holiday season instead of purchasing a tree as has been done in the past.
* The library board has a vacancy which it will fill, now that Robbie Roberts has vacated the post and  holds Place 3 in his position as  Pinson City Councilor.
*Dedication of the Baird Tatum Cemetery will take place June 8, 2013 at 1:00pm. Because of parking restraints at the cemetery, those wishing to attend are asked to park at Restoration Church  located next to Mission Possible at 4496 Center Point Rd . You will receive further directions from someone there.

Phase I c/would include; event center w/ restrooms, parking lot, maintenance building, playground, service road,entrance sign, perimeter loop pathway,disc golf course,lighting. Asked about the length of time before completion of Phase I, the architect and Council estimated about 15 months.

After the presentation, Council agreed to have a planning meeting among members to tweak the outline of the park presented to them. Some items portrayed in the sketch may be eliminated or moved about.

 Residents in attendance are excited about the upcoming park and its enhancement to the City of Pinson. Mayor and Council were given an ovation by attendees to show their gratitude for the work they have done to maintain and enhance the City of Pinson.

The next Pinson City Council meeting will be held June 13, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Pinson City Hall.

OCTOBER 2011

Happy Anniversary!

It was at this time last year Heather Pointe president Liz Reiff's intense and tireless campaign to have the streets of Heather Pointe paved became a reality.   Within months the streets of Heather Pointe were smooth and free of potholes. I'm sure we all appreciate her hard work and smooth driving!  

UpdateThe Hot and Cold beverage store either didn’t close or is open under new management. I went by the business this past week and asked the people behind the counter if they would be closing. I related to them the information I was led to believe at the September Pinson City Council meeting. Both of the clerks there stated that they had not heard about a closing. The September 2011 minutes have not been placed on the City of Pinson website so I am unable at this time to check the facts. As of this date the Hot and Cold beverage store remains up and running.

The annual Veteran’s luncheon will be held November 10th at Pinson United Methodist Church. Veteran’s should call Pinson City Hall to reserve a place at the luncheon. Ask for the time of the luncheon when you phone City Hall. 205-680-5556

The City of Pinson has received repeated requests for a park with playground equipment and walking trails. The mayor has been looking into an area with 14 acres at a price of $180,000 for this future venture.

Dollar General now has an off premise alcohol license.

911  Exercise the Neighborhood Watch program.  The National Night Out event held in August was to  allow us to meet our neighbors and show our unity in the fight against crime. Stay aware of your surroundings and those of your neighbors. Report any  suspicious activity and unfamiliar cars, trucks and persons coming onto our streets to the Sheriff's Department. Better to be safe than sorry.

The  devastating April tornadoes spared  the Heather Pointe community. Yet many were the recipients of destructive remnants left by the tornadoes. No doubt  someone you know was  affected in some way. The EMA of Alabama and those connected with search and rescue operations have done a tremendous job.  Perhaps you have sheltered loved ones who have lost their home, assisted with cleanup or donated time and supplies. You too are a hero/heroine. Let us not forget those who perished, those who were injured  and those in need.  

* Summer is fast approaching.  Children will be spending more time out of doors. The carefree lives of most children causes them to sometimes become careless. An out of bounds ball, bicycle or  running child can appear out of nowhere.  Stay alert and pay attention to speed limit signs.

MOVIES IN THE PARK

The City of Pinson will sponsor outdoor movies on May 13 and May 20. The field behind Solid Rock Church is where the movies will be shown. Bring your lawn chairs beach towels and snacks. Movies start at dusk. Pinson Methodist Church will be the alternate site in case of rain. The movies are free and fun for the whole family.
