JUNE 2013

Summer has arrived.
Watch out for children playing.

City of Pinson Park in the works
The June 6, 2013  meeting of the Pinson City Council agenda can be viewed below. (Click to enlarge)

 Among the highlights were:
* Offering of  a $500 reward for information into car thefts and break ins that have recently taken place in  surrounding communities since the close of school.
* Movies in May had to be held inside due to weather. Because of this money was lost on rental of movie projection equipment. Council is researching purchasing its own movie projection equipment for the City of Pinson.
* The cedar tree in Triangle Park will be decorated for the holiday season instead of purchasing a tree as has been done in the past.
* The library board has a vacancy which it will fill, now that Robbie Roberts has vacated the post and  holds Place 3 in his position as  Pinson City Councilor.
*Dedication of the Baird Tatum Cemetery will take place June 8, 2013 at 1:00pm. Because of parking restraints at the cemetery, those wishing to attend are asked to park at Restoration Church  located next to Mission Possible at 4496 Center Point Rd . You will receive further directions from someone there.

Pinson Park
Jane Ross, of Goodwyn Mills Cawood was on hand to display preliminary
illustrations of what the proposed Pinson Park could look like and the features within the park.  The park would be built in three phases . Phase I c/would include; event center w/ restrooms, parking lot, maintenance building, playground, service road, entrance sign, perimeter loop pathway, disc golf course, lighting. ( click photo to enlarge)
Proposed lay out of future Pinson Park

Asked about the length of time before completion of Phase I, the architect and Council estimated about 15 months.

After the presentation, Council agreed to have a planning meeting among members to tweak the outline of the park presented to them. Some items portrayed in the sketch may be eliminated or moved about.

Estimated cost of Phase I around $800,000

MARCH 2013

Weather Preparedness

The months of March and April are the peak tornado months in Alabama. The second peak is during the latter portion of October and the first part of November. This is not to say a tornado could not come about during any other part of the year as has been evidenced from past weather disasters. Are you prepared ?

Help protect your family against potential weather disasters and emergency situations by compiling an emergency supply kit.

The kit can be assembled over a five-month period on a weekly basis. Help protect your family against potential weather disasters and emergency situations by compiling an emergency supply kit. Perishable items should be changed or replaced every six months. For a list of items you may need click here.
The Dog Might Be Innocent

Most often when seeing garbage strewn about the first thought is that a dog has run amuck. It may not always be a dog or other wild animals. It may be a bird, namely crows.

Crows are naturally curious birds that are quite inventive when it comes to accessing trash cans and bags. The crows tear open the bags looking for food scraps as well as items to build their nests with. Crows will spread the trash out over the ground and make quite a mess in their search. To keep crows out of trash bags, you must use measures to scare the crows away and keep the trash bags properly sealed.
